In this blog post I will look at the reciprocal arrangement between the BVAA (British Valve and Actuator Association) and NOF Energy and why I recommend joining both.
The BVAA was established in 1939 and represents the interests of over 170 British companies which are responsible for over £1billion sales each year. Benefits of being a member include: Industry leading training courses, editorial space in Valve User magazine, desktop exhibitions, educational conferences and social events. Networking and business referral is also a key benefit. The BVAA run a number of valve / actuator working groups ensuring members get the latest information on industry standards & certifications and also influencing decisions that are made.
NOF Energy is the UKs most proactive industry led business development organisation focussing on oil and gas, nuclear and renewables. NOF Energy has generated over £140M worth of new business for its members. This is through member to member introductions and through key strategic partnerships with the likes of Maersk, Foster Wheeler, Worley Parsons, Petrofac and many more. NOF Energy run training sessions, networking lunches with the strategic partners and an annual conference that is a must attend event if you work in the industry. As BVAA members we get access to all of the above services and at the same rate as NOF Energy members so why do I think it’s worth joining both? There’s lots of other benefits just for NOF members, I've listed a few that I have experienced below:
Personal introduction service. Let’s face it, if you call / email BP, EDF Energy or any other similar sized organisation you’ll find it almost impossible to speak to the relevant person to pitch your products. NOF Energy can send a personal email to the right person and facilitate the introduction. I’ve tried it and it’s a much warmer approach than a traditional cold call.
Free marketing and PR support. NOF Energy engage with a PR / Marketing firm who members can access at no extra cost. If you have a press release you want re wording or help with an article or advertisement let NOF know and they’ll start the ball rolling.

Members spotlight feature. Submit an article to NOF and they will feature you in the monthly email newsletter which goes to the database including strategic partners.
Face to face industry advice. I’ve visited NOF Energy twice and spent an hour each time getting advice on our Aberdeen market strategy, this has included being given a long list of contacts to approach or get NOF to approach.
These are both very worthwhile organisations and it’s great they work together on so many initiatives. I would be interested to hear of other people’s experiences of BVAA / NOF Energy memberships and the benefits people have seen.
